Hefei institute of material science and strong magnetic field researcher at the center of Chinese academy of sciences, China university of science and technology, professor Chen Qianwang team found nitrogen doped graphene can catalytic reduction of nitro phenol, this is the first time under mild conditions (no light, etc) of nonmetallic catalysts used in catalytic the reported that its reaction kinetics is zero order reaction, before is different from the first order reaction of metal catalysts.
Graphene has excellent physical and chemical properties and getting people's attention. In recent years, Chen Qianwang group has been engaged in the research of doped graphene in new areas, reported the doped graphene on the surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy and good performance in the oxidation reduction reactions.
Team of researchers using in situ infrared and simulation method of combining the, found the nitro phenol by hydroxyl adsorption on the surface of graphene. Because only the doping of nitrogen atoms can only be activated carbon atoms on the ortho, so its active site less than traditional metal catalysts, changed the dynamics of the catalytic behavior. The catalyst activity and transition metal is commonly used, cheap, reusable.
